Your First Media Assignment

Welcome to Media! Today we will build the foundation for a nearly paperless class. By the end of this class you should:

1. Click here to set up a Gmail account. (If you already have a Gmail account, you may email me from that account. If you currently use another email client, you will need to set up and use a Gmail account for anything related to this class. This will give you access to DropBox, which is a great free way to back up your files.)

2. Email Ms. Lawson (steph at stephlawson.com) from your Gmail account.  You will not receive credit if you email me from another email client. Your email should include:

1. Your first and last name
2. The answers to the following questions:

   1. What will happen if you are caught with a hat or cell phone?
   2. What will you have to do to get the hat or cell phone back?
   3. Whose is responsible if the computer crashes and your project disappears? What will happen?
   4. How will you back up your work?
   5. When is food allowed in the Media Lab?
   6. List the circumstance under which I may refuse to offer you extra help:
   7. List some easy ways to gain participation points:
   8. List some easy ways to lose participation points:
   9. Do you have access to a digital camera (this includes a cell phone camera)? Do you feel comfortable using this camera for class projects?
   10. What are 3 things you will do to help yourself succeed in this class?
   11. How can I (the teacher) help you succeed in this class?
   12. Tell me something you think I should know about you (if you have taken my class before, this should be something I don’t know!)

3. Click here to set up a WordPress account. (This will be your Media class blog.) You may choose any free template you like, but keep in mind that you will need to post both text and images, so you should pick a template that supports both of these requirements well.

4. Leave a comment on THIS post that includes your first name, last initial, and link to your WordPress blog. For example, “Stephanie M. – My blog URL is SOTAmedialab.wordpress.com.”

5. If you have time, set up the “About” page on your blog.
